Care Instructions

Below you will find care instructions for both tropical flowers, including anthuriums, and leis. Leis are much more delicate than cut flowers and are meant to last only for the occasion for which they were purchased. Tropical flowers, on the other hand, when treated properly can last two - three weeks.

padTropical Flowers can be extremely long lasting, provided they receive the proper care. When your flowers arrive, gently unpack them, trim approximately 1/4-1/2 inch from each stem, using very sharp scissors or a very sharp knife. Care should be taken to get each flower into water as soon as its stem is trimmed, so it is best to work with one flower at a time. The Hawaiian foliage can also be trimmed prior to its use.

Every day or two, replace the water in the vase and re-trim approximately 1/4 inch from the stem. Enjoy your tropical flowers from Flower Garden -- Hawai'i.

The Dendrobium flower is very hearty and loves water. When your Dendrobium Lei(s) arrives, gently unpack it and completely immerse it in room temperature tap water for 5 - 10 minutes. Orchids love this since they drink directly through their petals. Remove it from the water and gently shake it dry. It does not need to be completely dry. Then place it in a plastic bag or container and into the refrigerator (NOT the freezer). The plastic bag does not need to be airtight, either way should be fine. Although your lei may experience stress during travel and the flowers appear 'limp', after an hour or two, your lei will perk up and appear much more "crisp" and healthy. Leave it in the refrigerator until just before it is needed. Keep it out of the sun as much as possible. Once it is placed on the recipient (along with the requisite congratulations and kiss) it will only last a few hours. Leis are meant to be given in the spirit of love and truly enjoyed while they last. Treat yours right and it will be a big hit.
